Trustees

Sightsavers is governed by a board of trustees, who are responsible for ensuring that the charity is well managed and abides by its charitable aims.

The trustees are appointed because of their commitment to Sightsavers and their experience and skills which enable them to undertake the responsibilities of trusteeship of an international not-for-profit organisation.

Lord Crisp - Chairman

Nigel Crisp has been involved with a number of projects concerned with international development and global health, and was Chief Executive of the NHS for a number of years. 

Uche Amazigo

Uche Amazigo brings to the Council a distinguished career in research, advocacy and programme management in the service of promoting public health and sustainable development.

Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braide

Ekanem Ikpi Braide is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science and The Nigerian Society for Parasitology. In 2010 she was awarded the Order of the Federal Republic by the President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

Caroline Casey

Caroline is a social entrepreneur and motivational speaker. Having established Kanchi, a not-for-profit organisation that works to change thinking on disability, she embarked on a 1000km trek around India on elephant back.

Dr Robert Chappell

Dr Robert Chappell OBE is currently Chairman of the Board of Management for the European Diploma in Optometry and Chairman of the UK Optometry Giving Sight Committee.

Alex Cole

Alex Cole’s passion for politics and current affairs has led her from work in the 1997 parliamentary elections to public affairs work for Cadbury’s and currently as Director of Corporate Affairs with Sainsbury’s

Martin Dinham

Martin is Chair of the Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. He was previously Director General International at the UK Department for International Development.

Mike Chilton

Mike is currently a senior executive at Cenkos Securities plc, a UK listed stockbroker. Prior to this he was the Finance and Risk Director of NS&I, a government department that is one of the UK’s largest savings organisations.

Professor Harminder Dua

Harminder is Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Nottingham and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Pat Farrell

Pat is Chief Executive of the Irish Banking Federation and was appointed as a trustee in November 2008.

Will Gardner

Will Gardner’s work in the marketing world range from large corporate environments such as Mars and Unilever to more entrepreneurial work as a consultant and as a founder member of a start up business

Jeremy Hughes

Jeremy is the Chief Executive of Britain's leading breast cancer charity, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, and was appointed as a trustee in November 2005.

David Jordan

David spent over 40 years with Philips Electronics, and ended his time there as CEO of the company in the UK, Ireland and South Africa.

Stephen King

Stephen co-founded the 40 country DAISY consortium which has developed a better way to read and publish, and is currently Director of Access and Innovation at the Royal National Institute of the Blind.

John Lafferty

John is the first visually impaired judge to sit in the high courts in the United Kingdom. John is also a trustee of the Disability Law Service and advises on training for disabled people.

Paresh Mashru

Paresh Mashru retired in 2005 as a Partner in Deloitte and Andersen following a 25 year career.

Dr Ramachandra Pararajasegaram

Dr Pararajasegaram was a founder member of IAPB along with Sir John Wilson and served as President from 1994 to 1999. He is a Sri Lankan ophthalmologist and is currently an International Ambassador for IMPACT.
