Meet Lady Jean Wilson

Lady Jean Wilson OBE is the wife of our founder, the late Sir John Wilson. She has spent most of her life working tirelessly with Sir John to eliminate avoidable blindness in developing countries. Together they embarked on a number of fact-finding missions to discover the true scale of blindness, which has formed the foundations of Sightsavers today. You can click here to read her memories of visiting Ghana in 1950.

Our Chief Executive Caroline Harper echoes this by saying: “Quite simply, Sightsavers would not be where it is today without Jean”.

Lady Wilson remains as passionate for the cause as ever, and is still involved in our work. She is pictured above at the launch of a Sightsavers fundraising appeal, with Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra. She was awarded an OBE for her charity work in 1981.

You can click here to watch a video of Lady Wilson talking about our achievements since we were set up by Sir John 60 years ago. Lady Wilson celebrated her 90th birthday in August 2012.
