Exeter RAG raid Swansea

Members of Exeter University RAG raised £1106.17 for Sightsavers after a weekend of 'raiding' in Swansea.

Following a commendably early departure from Devon the 19 'raiders' arrived in sunny Wales dressed as birds or bananas, and armed with nothing but collection buckets and big smiles. Making the most of a great location, and adding to the always welcoming atmosphere of the city, the 'raiders' had a great day thanks to the generosity of the Swansea locals, raising over a thousand pounds that will contribute to Sightsavers work across the globe.

Raising and giving, or RAG groups, are predominantly student groups or societies who like to spend their time trying to convince the general public to dig deep in their pockets and give what they can to a chosen charity.

Central to the RAG cause is the raid; when the group head to a town or city, often in fancy dress and funny costumes, with the aim of laughing along with the locals and filling their buckets with money in the process. RAG groups are all about having fun and taking part in something out of the ordinary whilst also contributing to some great causes.

So next time you see a 6-foot banana holding a bucket be sure to hand over some funds! Even the smallest donations can go along way to helping Sightsavers and other charities continue our vital work in some of the world’s poorest regions.
