Here are a selection of interesting eye facts for you!

  1. Blinking helps to protect our eyes by keeping them wet. When we blink we spread tears from one side of our eye to the other to stop them drying out.
  2. The largest eyeball on the planet is 18 inches wide, about the size of a large watermelon and it belongs to The Giant Squid.
  3. Did you know that an ant has two eyes? But each eye contains lots of smaller eyes. This is called a ‘compound eye’
  4. The most active muscles in the human body are our eye muscles.
  5. In order for your eye to see it takes more than 2 million parts of your eye working together.
  6. A worm doesn’t have any eyes.
  7. Babies don’t produce tears in their eyes until they are one to three months old.
  8. The most eye injuries are caused by baseball, followed by basketball, water sports and racquet sports.
  9. Our eyelashes have an average life span of 5 months.
  10. Dogs can’t see the difference between the colours red and green.
