Pupils from St Mary’s CE Primary school in Kent recently took part in a bingo night to raise money for Sightsavers International.

The whole class planned the event themselves as part of a topic which focused on children in the developing world who have problems with their sight.

Through learning about the plight of these children, the pupils decided that they wanted to raise money to help them. They came up with the idea of hosting a bingo night where fellow pupils, parents and teachers could take part and have fun as well as raise money.

The class allocated jobs for one another and organised the whole event themselves which, as well as the bingo, included a bring-and-buy stall, a cake stall and a raffle. Finally the big night arrived and all who attended had a wonderful time raising a fantastic £105!

Class teacher, Alison Trelfer said: ‘The children had a great time and have learnt a lot about the charity and how it feels to help other people. I am so proud of them as they are of themselves.’
