Three pupils aged eight, nine and 11 have been chosen as the national winners of the 2011 Junior Painter of the Year competition and their artwork is being displayed at the world famous gallery, the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
This year's theme was 'I care about..' and 36 pupils aged 4-11 from across the UK have won a fantastic prize of having their work displayed at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

Professor Maurice Cockrill RA, Keeper of the Royal Academy of Arts was one of the head judges and is displaying one of his own pieces of art which will be showcased alongside all the winning paintings. He said: ‘I’ve judged the competition for a few years now, and am always amazed by the imagination, creativity and enthusiasm of the aspiring artists that enter"

Thousands of paintings were sent in all using this year's theme. From dinosaurs, the environment and pollution to war, pets and toys. The three national winners the 33 regional winners and runners up were selected from a team of judges as the most original and creative and will feature in an exhibition in the cafe at the Royal Academy of Arts until the 23 November.

The national winners are:

  • Sofya Nikitina from Sancton Wood Infant School in Cambridgeshire - national winner for Infants
  • Ben Spurr from Weald Community Primary School in Kent - national winner for Lower Juniors

All three winners will be treated to an awards day in London on the 2 November where they will get to see their work exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts!
