Kenyan Annual National Games gallery
These games are staged by the Ministry of Education to bring together students with different disabilities from both integrated and special schools.
Over 2000 participants took part in this year’s event, which took place in Nakuru from 15-18 April, of which 500 were blind or have low vision.
Sightsavers has supported the games for many years, together with our local partner the Kenya Society for the Blind. Our support is to the tune of Ksh 200,000 every year, in order that the blind and visually impaired children from the 19 integrated education programmes that we work with can compete.
Sport is a tried and tested way to help people with visual impairments improve skills like their mobility and coordination. Not to mention the sense of pride in competing and winning, something everyone can relate to!
