Our work in Senegal

At a glance

Located on the west coast of Africa, and almost completely surrounding The Gambia, Senegal’s population is concentrated in the less arid western part. Millions of West African tribes-people were shipped from the Senegal Valley, which remains under-populated to this day as a result of the slave trade.

Senegal gained independence from France in 1960, and today its main exports include fish, chemicals, cotton, fabrics, and its main market is India.

Sightsavers in Senegal

We have been working in the Louga Region since January 2007, providing eye care to vulnerable communities particularly susceptible to diseases like trachoma.
