Advocacy

An important part of our work is advocating for change: from changes in attitudes, to positions or policies affecting eye health or disabled people’s rights.

We also help blind people advocate for their rights, and the most effective way of doing this is by working with blind or disabled people’s organisations, such as our partners the Kenya Union of the Blind, and the Tanzania League of the Blind.

Advocacy successes

World Sight Day

An important advocacy opportunity for us is World Sight Day – celebrated every year on the second Thursday of October, to raise awareness of avoidable blindness.

Please note that as we are not registered medical practitioners and do not directly deliver eye care in the countries in which we work, but work with local partners, we are not able to respond to any questions regarding medical issues. Please contact your health service provider for medical advice.
