Education

It's estimated that a staggering 67 million children around the world missing out on an education, and approximately a third of these are children with some kind of disability.

Sightsavers works to make sure children who are blind or have low vision get the chance to go to school. We support the principle of inclusive education. This is where children who have a disability such as being blind or have low vision are included in the mainstream education system.

Learning and blindness

Children with disabilities such as blindness are often last in line when it comes to education. In fact it is believed that the proportion of disabled children receiving any form of education is as low as 1-3% in some developing countries.

Global Campaign for Education

Sightsavers is a member of the Global Campaign for Education which promotes education as a basic human right, and mobilizes public pressure on governments and the international community to fulfill their promises to provide free, compulsory public basic education for all people.
