Childhood blindness

An estimated 19 million children have a visual impairment. Of these, 1.4 million are blind.

Before the age of five the majority of learning is through sight, so childhood blindness has far reaching effects when it occurs this young.

Approximately three-quarters of the world’s blind children live in the poorest regions of Africa and Asia.
