How to leave a legacy

Whatever your age or circumstances, the importance of having an up-to-date Will shouldn’t be underestimated. Having a Will means that you can ensure you provide for the people and causes that you most care about and have control over who benefits from your estate.

If you haven’t yet made a Will or your current Will was made some time ago, don’t put it off any longer. Making a Will is easy, and updating it is even easier. Without a will the law decides how your estate is distributed; this is done according to standard rules, which means that your intentions will not be taken into account and loved ones may not receive anything.

If you wish to include a gift to Sightsavers in your current Will this can be done by completing a Codicil; you will find a form at the back of our will making guide.

If you are making a new Will the following wording suggestions can help ensure your wishes are carried out:

Residuary bequest (a proportion)

I give (%) of the residue of my real and personal estate to Sightsavers (Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind) of Grosvenor Hall, Bolnore Road, Haywards Heath, RH16 4BX (Registered Charity numbers 207544 and SC038110) for their general purposes and the receipt of the proper officer of the charity shall be sufficient discharge for my Executors.

Pecuniary bequest (a set sum)

I give the sum of ………pounds to Sightsavers (Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind) of Grosvenor Hall, Bolnore Road, Haywards Heath, RH16 4BX (Registered Charity numbers 207544 and SC038110) for their general purposes and the receipt of the proper officer of the charity shall be sufficient discharge for my Executors.
