Trusts & foundations
In 2011 we received support from more than 500 charitable trusts based in the UK, together with support from foundations based in continental Europe, the United States of America and other countries. Grants ranged from just a few pounds to more than £100,000.
There are a number of ways to offer support. Some foundations and charitable trusts give through monthly standing orders, some give one-off or annual unrestricted gifts, which allows us to use the money to address our identified priorities at that time, and others work in partnership with us over a number of years to support a specific programme or area of work, such as combating childhood blindness in Pakistan or India or supporting irreversibly blind and visually impaired children to attend school.
As an organisation, we will continue to focus on combating avoidable blindness and visual impairment and supporting those whose sight cannot be improved or restored. We will do this through demonstrating sustainable, replicable and scalable approaches to eye care which strengthen existing health systems in the countries where we work.
