You can help prevent sight loss

90% of sight loss is preventable, but millions of people are never diagnosed or able to get treatment. Will you help?

Right now, more than 1.1 billion people worldwide have a visual impairment that could be treated or prevented. But you can help change this.

Preventing sight loss begins with a routine eye test. These can detect conditions such as cataracts, often before the symptoms are apparent.

But access to eye tests is unequal. In remote communities, eye clinics are scarce, and people cannot receive the care they need. Imagine a child struggling to read at school because their cataracts go undiagnosed. Or an older person losing their independence because they can’t afford transportation to a distant clinic.

By supporting Sightsavers, you’re not just funding eye tests: you’re helping to ensure that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has the chance to protect their sight. Please will you help us prevent sight loss?

How your donation could help prevent sight loss

Archana is having her eyes screened for cataracts.

Providing eye tests

Your donation could support projects to provide community eye screenings in some of the most remote areas of the world. For many people, this can be the first time they have an eye test.

Dr Ndalela examines a boy's eyes and applies ointment to ease the symptoms of trachoma.

Training health workers

Your donation could help fund training for workers specialising in eye care. Health workers conduct eye tests, diagnose eye conditions, provide medicines and refer people for sight-saving operations.

Vital operations

Surgeries for cataracts and other severe eye conditions can take less than an hour. Your donation could help to train surgeons, transport patients to hospital, or provide surgical equipment.
