Shamim, from Malawi, was born with cataracts in both eyes. Her parents, Christopher and Loney, noticed early on that she was struggling to recognise people and interact with the world around her. 

Like many families in remote communities, they found it difficult to access the sight-saving treatment she needed. They were left worrying for her future.

Thanks to generous supporters like you and Sightsavers’ trusted partners, Shamim received a cataract operation, opening up her world. Her parents are finally able to breathe a little easier.

For thousands of children around the world, cataracts take away far more than just their vision. They could lose their freedom to play, learn and explore; to simply be children.
