Rukkaya suffers from trachoma. This excruciating disease caused scarring on her eyelids, which turned her eyelashes inwards so they were scraping the surface of her eye.

It’s so painful that many resort to pulling their eyelashes out with tweezers – but this relief only lasts a day or two.

When we visited Rukkaya’s village in Nigeria we discovered it wasn’t the first time she’d had trachoma. Two years ago she’d had to have an operation to stop the infection leaving her blind.

Her previous operation was successful, but sadly the infection came back. Rukkaya started to skip school on days when her eyes were too itchy, meaning she was at risk of missing out on her education.

This is heartbreaking, and it’s happening right now to millions of children in some of the poorest parts of the world.

But with your help, we can reach vulnerable children like Rukkaya and provide the treatment or surgery they need to stop their pain and suffering – and, at the same time, distribute sight-saving medication to protect their families against future infection.

Will you donate today and help stop unnecessary suffering and blindness for more children like Rukkaya?
