Together, we've already helped to eliminate trachoma in five African countries.

Will you join us for the rest of the journey?

Trachoma shouldn’t exist any more

The earliest known evidence of trachoma was found by archaeologists in Australia, dating back to 8,000BC. Trachoma has been around for at least 10,000 years.

In the 1930s the bacteria that causes trachoma was identified, enabling it to be treated with antibiotics.

It has now been eliminated in many countries but continues to devastate lives around the world, causing pain and sight loss in 20 countries where we work.

Below, you can use the arrows in the gallery to see the progress made in eliminating trachoma in Africa, from 2013 until 2023.

Trachoma, your time is up!

Your support helps to deliver trachoma treatments around the world in the journey to elimination. Across Africa, it has already helped eliminate it in five countries and continues to protect and change lives.

Your support has helped save the sight of Mohamed, Daphine and Nar in the countries listed below. We need your support to help save the sight of so many more.

A world without trachoma is in sight. A world where no one is living without access to the treatment they need to end their pain.

103 million people are still at risk of going blind from trachoma. In 2024, we worked with our partners to deliver 3.7 million life-changing trachoma treatments.

We know how to eliminate trachoma, but we need to work together to reach everyone in every country where we work.

Will you help us continue the journey to elimination?
