Experience the world’s biggest half-marathon in the heart of north-east England.

In 2026, the Great North Run marks 45 years since the famous event began. Join in the celebrations by taking on the unforgettable 13.1-mile race from Newcastle’s vibrant city centre to the stunning coastline of South Shields.

You’ll join thousands of runners as you head through lively streets lined with cheering crowds, passing local landmarks and soaking up the atmosphere. You’ll finish by the beautiful seafront, where you can celebrate your achievement with friends and family at the event village with plenty of northern hospitality.

There is no entry fee, and we ask runners to raise £375 for our vital charity work.

The £375 you raise could help pay for three eye operations to treat people with advanced trachoma.

If you’ve already signed up for this event, you can still fundraise for us. Before you become a Sightsavers fundraiser, you need to have confirmed your place with the race organiser. This means registering directly and paying your registration fee.
