International Day of People with Disabilities is celebrated on 3 December every year to promote the rights of people with disabilities.

This year we’re sharing stories of inclusion in action, amplifying the voices of young people with disabilities and launching a report that shows that disability-inclusive development is one of the smartest, most transformative investments in global aid.

Why is disability inclusion important?

Disability inclusion remains an under-resourced area of development. Yet people with disabilities make up an estimated 16 per cent of the global population. They are disproportionately affected by conflict, instability, humanitarian disasters and climate change, and in many countries face significant barriers to education, employment and healthcare.

Disability inclusion isn’t charity – it’s investment. By making development disability inclusive, we can address this inequality and strengthen communities, economies and democracies.
