Give a sadaqah donation today

Will you help more children like Minahil reach their potential?

Your sadaqah gift is vital in helping those who are in need.

Sightsavers works in more than 30 countries, many with large Muslim populations, helping to prevent blindness and treat those at risk of avoidable sight loss.

Alongside our partners, and with the support of people like you, we’ve helped children and families receive eye care that has helped to change the course of their lives. We also promote the rights of people with disabilities, working with local and national partners to promote inclusion. We believe everyone has the right to education, and want all children to have the opportunity to go to school.

By giving sadaqah to Sightsavers, you can help transform the lives of children like 13-year-old Minahil. Without the generosity of our supporters, Minahil wouldn’t have been able to receive a life-changing eye test that revealed she needed a pair of glasses to correct her vision.

Your sadaqah donation will help support our work wherever the need is greatest.

What is sadaqah?

In Islam, sadaqah means ‘righteousness’ and refers to a voluntary act of charity towards others without expecting anything in return and to please Allah. It can range from an act of kindness, such as helping a person or an animal, to giving a monetary gift to a charity.

The 12th of Rabi al-Awwal

Rabi al-Awwal is the third month in the Islamic calendar. The 12th of Rabi al-Awwal is particularly significant for Muslims as it is said to mark the Prophet Muhammad’s birth and also marks his death.

On this day, many Muslims around the world reflect on his life, teachings and devotion to Allah. For the entire month of Rabi al-Awwal, Prophet Muhammad is celebrated and commemorated by many. This year, it’s expected to fall on 4 September in the UK.

Giving sadaqah this Rabi al-Awwal

Muslims are encouraged to act like Prophet Muhammad by helping those in need. Throughout his life, he took care of people, his community and treated everyone equally. Doing good deeds such as donating to charity and helping those less fortunate allow Muslims to take on his spirit and earn rewards from Allah.

Minahil’s transformation shows the impact your sadaqah can have. Will you give a gift today to help brighten a child’s future?

How we use donations

91% of gifts to Sightsavers, including donated supplies, go directly to our charity work. The remainder helps grow awareness of Sightsavers and raises more funds for our projects.

“These glasses will help me achieve my ambitions”

A girl, who wears glasses, smiles as she sits in a school corridor.

Before Minahil received her glasses, she found it very difficult to do her school work. Her poor eyesight made it a struggle to keep up with her studies, and she was overwhelmed by headaches and the strain of focusing on her work.

Everything changed when Minahil was given a pair of glasses following an eye test at school. The moment she put them on, her world was transformed.
