Bright for Sight

This easy-to-host fundraising event enables companies across Ireland to support our work fighting avoidable blindness. By wearing yellow to work on 24 July 2020, supporters can help change lives worldwide.

On 24 July, go Bright for Sight! Simply wear something yellow for work, whether you are working at home or in your new socially distanced workplace – you and your colleagues can restore the sight of those who are needlessly blind.

Bright for Sight is an easy way to get your colleagues together to help raise money for sight-saving operations. Just ask your workmates to wear something yellow on Friday 24 July and make a small donation.

Of course this year is a little different to how we imagined! So although we can’t be all together, we can still get together for a virtual or socially distanced coffee morning to celebrate Bright for Sight and raise funds for a great cause. Show off your yellow with your colleagues via a virtual quiz, video cooking lesson or bake-off, or even a virtual wine and cheese tasting

Why yellow? Because yellow is the colour that is easiest for someone with a visual impairment to see. A headband, a tie, your favourite t-shirt – anything works! If it’s yellow, wear it and go Bright for Sight this July.

How do I get involved?

It’s so easy to host a Bright for Sight event at work! Email [email protected] to sign you and your colleagues up, and we will send you everything you need.

Or to learn more about Bright for Sight, contact Lauren on [email protected] or 1 2700020.

How will I be making a difference?

Imagine losing your sight bit by bit, and with it your ability to do some of the things you enjoy, to go to school, to earn a living, or to look after yourself and your family. Imagine how frightening or dangerous it would be to do simple things, like cross the road.

Sightsavers’ vision is of a world where no one goes blind needlessly and where people with disabilities participate equally in society. There are 36 million people in the world who are blind, but 75% of blindness can be prevented or cured. Shocked at how unfair this is? So are we.

By going Bright for Sight this July, you and your colleagues can help us restore the sight of hundreds of people who are needlessly blind from cataracts. Just €32 can provide an adult with a sight-restoring cataract operation, transforming their lives. And €104 can change a child’s future.
