Indulge your passion for gaming while raising money for charity by becoming a Game Changer.

By playing your favourite video games in aid of Sightsavers, you can help us fund vital eye surgery and ensure people with blindness and other disabilities are given the same rights as everyone else.

There are two ways to take part in our fundraising event. Select whether you’ll be Player 1, taking on an epic charity gaming marathon, or Player 2, hosting an in-person video games event with friends, family or colleagues. See how to play

Not a gamer? You can still get involved to raise money and show your support for our work by making a donation or hosting a charity gaming event for others.

Player 1: online gaming marathon

Decide on the marathon length and fundraising target, then choose which game you’re going to play and stream to your followers.

Sign up and set up your page via a streaming site like Tiltify: this online fundraising tool has a built-in donation page, and you can create polls, give stickers and set donation milestones. Download Game Changers graphics

After you sign up, you’ll receive a Game Changers guide to help you prepare. It’s a good idea to let your followers know when you plan to do your gaming marathon.

Player 2: real-life gaming party

If streaming isn’t for you, but you love gaming at home just for fun, you can host a charity gaming event with your friends, family or colleagues to raise funds for Sightsavers.

Set up an online fundraising page through JustGiving. This will enable you to easily gather donations from your gaming event and send them direct to Sightsavers.

Invite friends, family or colleagues to join your party and play games. Each person makes a donation (we’d suggest £10 per person) to have fun and raise money for Sightsavers.

Frequently asked questions

You can choose the best date and time to start your gaming challenge.

If you’ve signed up as Player 1 to complete a gaming marathon, it’s up to you when you complete the challenge and how long your marathon is – it could be anything from four hours to 24 hours, depending on what’s achievable for you. Make sure you’re feeling fit and healthy on the day, are in a comfortable and well-lit room, and take plenty of breaks to refresh and recharge.

If you’ve signed up as Player 2 to host a real-life gaming party, you’re welcome to join thousands of other gamers around the world and hold your event on World Gaming Day: 22 October. If you already have plans for  22 October, don’t worry – you can host your party on a different date in October.

Our Player 1 option to complete a gaming marathon is only open to participants aged 18 and over.

If you’ve signed up as Player 2 to host a real-life gaming party, this is open to all ages. If you live with a parent or guardian, please let them know you’d like to take part – they can help you organise your event.

For every donation we receive (including donated supplies), 91% directly helps to prevent blindness, restore sight and support people with blindness and other disabilities. The remainder helps to grow awareness and funds.

If you choose to donate to our work, your donation will go into our general funds and will be spent wherever the need is greatest. Examples of how your gift will help include:

Eye care
You’ll be supporting projects that will restore sight and prevent sight loss in some of the poorest communities in the world. Blindness can make coping with poverty so much harder, so these projects really do give children and adults a brighter future.

Education
With your support, we can help children with visual impairments to go to school, giving them the best possible chance of an independent future.

Rehabilitation
Your gift will help to provide training and support for people who are blind, enabling them to lead fuller, more independent lives.

Thank you for wanting to support a particular area of work.

Unfortunately, with smaller gifts, it would cost Sightsavers too much to administer thousands of different gifts to different areas, therefore your donation will go into our general funds and be used wherever the need is greatest.
